Unimaginable horror

As you may know, my home state of Victoria has been ravaged by bushfires over the last week. At last count, there were 181 dead, over 1,800 houses destroyed, and many more thousands left homeless. Word on the street is that they expect over 300 dead, but have recovered all the bodies that, well, still resemble human remains. Ick.

More than a week later and the city is still bathed in smoke and an eerie orange glow.

We are all in shock at this unimaginable horror. And we have all been touched – if not directly, then in a bizarre twist on something less than six degrees of separation, we know someone directly affected.

My heart goes out to those who have lost someone; to those who have lost their homes; and to the 4,500 volunteers still out fighting the fires and mopping up.
